Abertis Chairs
The Central Campus of the Pontifical Catholic University was the place chosen to hold the Abertis Awards ceremony on 4th September.
The event was opened by the rector of the PCU, Doctor Ignacio Sánchez, who praised the work of the International Network of Abertis Chairs in the different countries in which it is present. He was followed by the director general of Abertis Chairs, Luis Miguel de Pablo, who highlighted the efforts made by Abertis to strengthen ties between Academia and Industry. It was the director of the Abertis-PUC Chair, Juan de Dios Ortuzar, who acted as host for the presentation of the Doctoral Thesis, Master’s Thesis and Road Safety research work awards.
Paulette Landon won the Doctoral Thesis category with the research titled “Zona Sur: barrios, infraestructura y movilidad cotidiana. Estrategias de apropiación y capital de movilidad familiar en barrios fragmentados. El caso de la Autopista Acceso sur de Santiago de Chile”.In the Master’s Thesis category, the award went to Nicolás Pavón for “Tarificación y provisión de infraestructura vial y servicios de transporte público: el impacto de diferentes mecanismos de financiamiento”.Special mention was given to Jeanette Orozco in this same category for her research “La movilidad como oportunidad para la renovación urbana: el caso del sector industrial en obsolescencia alrededor de Vicuña Mackenna”. With regard to Road Safety, María de los Ángeles González was acknowledged for “Estudio antes-después sobre la ley tolerancia cero”.All winners this year were from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile.
Another Abertis-PUC Chair event worth noting is its 4th Annual Seminar, held on 17th August and organised by doctorate student Daniel Moreno Díaz. The seminar is a chance for students from the Department of Transportation and Logistics Engineering to share their research and receive feedback from other researchers (nine this time) and professors from the department.

The exhibition “Miró: la experiencia de mirar” (Miró: the experience of looking)was held at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires (Argentina) from 25th November 2017 to 25th February 2018.

In the previous summary we indicated that the artist Joan Miró maintained a close link with the avant-garde scene in Paris from his youth until a ripe old age. The exhibition sponsored by Abertis at the Grand Palais enabled the Catalan painter to return to the French capital.
